The Weizmann Institute of Science is located in Rehovot and serves as one of the world’s leading basic and multidisciplinary scientific research institutes in the natural and exact sciences.
The Institute of Advanced Materials was designed as a unique building, with special features required for the research activities of the Department of Chemistry, the Chemical Research Infrastructure Unit and the Electron Microscopy Unit.
All the Institute’s electron microscopy laboratories, advanced analytical laboratories and research laboratories in the various fields of chemistry will be concentrated in the building.
The building was designed to isolate the sensitive equipment installed inside it, from environmental influences and the effects of the building itself.
The area of the building is about 25,000 square meters, most of it underground.
The building contains about 20 electron microscopy laboratories at the VC-G level of stability, 4 single microscopy laboratories at the highest level of physical stability and completely isolated from the environment, ISO CLASS-5 clean rooms complex with an area of 1,000 square meters, analytical laboratories with an area of about 1,000 square meters and about 20 personal research laboratories in various fields of research.
The building was designed in a full BIM environment.
Status – Execution
Construction of the building began in April 2020 by winning contractor Electra Construction.
As of January 2023:
The superstructure is in advanced construction stages.
